TERRITORY

Germany (Federal Republic of Germany) is a country in Central Europe. It is bordered by the North Sea, Denmark, Poland, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Netherland, Belgium and France.

Its capital and largest city is Berlin. Germany was divided into to separate states (East Germany- West Germany).

The territory of Germany covers 357'021 square kilometres and is influenced by the season climate. It has got 82 million inhabitants.

STATES OF GERMANY


Saarland: Saarland is one of the 16 provinces in Germany. Its capital is Saarbrücken. The area of the province has 2570km² and population is about 1 milion of people.









Baden-Württemberg: it's another of Federal Republic of Germany. It is in the southwestern of Germany. It has got 35.751,65 square kilometres and 10,7 million inhabitants. The capital is Stuttgart.












Rhineland-Palatinate: it has got an area of 19.847 km2 and 4 million inhabitants.





Bavaria: it has got an area of 70.548 square kilometres and 12,5 milion inhabitants. Its capital is Munich. it is the largest state of Germany by area.







Hesse: it has got an area of 21.100 square kilometres and about six million inhabitants. The capital is Wiesbaden. It is situated in west-central Germany.















North Rhine-Westphalia: It is the largest Federal State of Germany. It has over 18 million inhabitants and compromise a land area of 34.083 square kilometres. The capital is Düsseldorf.






Thuringia: It is located in central Germany. It has got 16.171 square kilometres and 2,29 million inhabitants. The capital is Erfurt.















Saxony: It is located in the southeasten of Germany. It has got 18.415,66 square kilometres and 4.192.700 million inhabitants. The capital is Dresden.








Saxony-Anhalt: It has an area of 20.477 square kilometres and a population of 2,45 million inhabitants. The capital is Magdeburg.













Berlin: It's the capital of Germany.Berlin is Germany's largest city.It's capital is Berlin. It has got an area about 89182 square kilometres and a population of 3,43 inhabitants.








Lower saxony: It is in north-western Germany.It has got 47.624'22 square kilometres and 7.997.000 inhabitants. The capital is Hanover.











Bremen: It is the smallest of Germany's Federal State. The capital is Bremen. The total area of the city is 408 square kilometres. It has got 664.000 inhabitants.








Brandenburg: It has got 29.478'63 square kilometres and 2.531.700 inhabitants. The capital is Potsdam.














Hamburg: It is the second largest city in Germany. The capital is Hamburg. The total area of the city is 755 square kilometres. It has got 1.769.117 inhabitants.













Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: It is in northern Germany. The capital city is Schwerin. It has got 23.174 square kilometres and 1.679.682 inhabitants.

















Sceleswig-Holstein: It is the northenmost of the sixteen states. The capital is Kiel. It has got 15.763'18 square kilometres and 2.837.021 inhabitants.

FOOD

Food has always been a major part of German culture.
There are a lot of types of food:


- Meat: pork, beef and poultry are there main varieties of meet consumed in Germany.
Pork is the most popular food in it.
- Fish: Trout is the most common freshwater fish on the German menu; pike, carp and Europan perch also are listed frequenly.
- Vegetables: Are often used in stews or vegetable soups. In this group there are: carrots, turnips, spinach, beans, peas, broccoli and many types of cabbages.
- Desserts: A wide variety of cakes and tarts are served throughtout the country, most commonly made with fresh fruit. There are: apples, plums, strawberries and cherries are used in cakes.

MUSIC AND ARTS

MUSIC:

SPORTS

Football is the most popular sport in Germany.

The Dresden English football club is considered the first modern club is football club in German.
Twenty-seven million Germans are members of a sports club and an additional twelve million pursue surch an activity individually.


Association football is the most popular sport. The German national football team won the FIFA World Cup, in 1954.
Other popular spectator sports include handball, volleyball, basketball, ice hockey and tennis.
